       Each episode of AIRBORNE follows eight charismatic creatures through their trials and triumphs, based around the episode’s overarching theme. We fly across the planet and through enthralling natural worlds, with each individual story more intriguing than the last. Fully immersed in each unique setting, the main characters are used as a springboard to reveal our characters’ friends and foes, adding drama and delight to each amazing airborne story.

       For these airborne creatures to thrive and survive means defying gravity and mastering the air around them, and they do so in extraordinary ways.

Episode 1 | CATCHING AIR

Catching Air

Rise and fall with the remarkable creatures who must learn to fly, practice their aerobatics, and hone their navigational skills to defy gravity.

With so many foes sharing the skies, height doesn’t always mean safety. Airborne creatures come face-to-face with enemies from all three dimensions.

Featuring Goshawks, Dusky Swifts, Gibbons, Ganets, Sandgrouse, Honey Bees, Bald Eagles, Starlings, and Free Tailed Bats.

Filmed in many locations over two years, this blue-chip tentpole series is full of firsts, never-before captured footage, and incredible natural storytelling that will hold audiences captive with wonder at our natural world. The incredible production team was joined by local filmmakers who are the world's top specialists in filming certain animal behaviours, and ensuring that this series is visually unlike any other.

Humble Bee Films Founder and CEO Stephen Dunleavy is a former BBC Natural History Unit producer with almost thirty years experience. Stephen oversees all editorial aspects of production and has steered the company from its humble origins as a single project indie to a growing company with multiple projects for broadcasters and platforms across the globe.

Charlotte Crosse
Executive Producer, Airborne

Charlotte Crosse has been working in television for 25 years, in the UK, US and Japan. Setting out as a trainee foreign correspondent with the BBC, she went on to work in entertainment with the likes of Clive James, Ruby Wax and Graham Norton. At Humble Bee, Charlotte recently executive produced our Emmy-winning Netflix series Wild Babies, and she is in charge of nurturing new and established production talent within the company.

Beth Brooks
Series Producer, Airborne

Beth Brooks is an Emmy-winning showrunner, with more than 25 years’ experience producing documentaries for broadcasters including Netflix, BBC, Sky, ITV, Love Nature, and many others. With multiple SP roles and more than 80 credits as a PD, she specialises in telling engaging character-driven stories from the natural world and beyond.

Sally Cryer
Producer / Director, Airborne

Sally Cryer is an Emmy-nominated Producer/Director with over 25 years’ experience making wildlife programmes, both for the BBC’s Natural History Unit as well as independent companies such as Humble Bee Films. She’s directed wildlife sequences all over the globe, and has a particular love of birds.

Dani Godwin
Producer / Director, Airborne

Producer Dani Godwin has over 10 years’ experience specialising in Natural History documentaries for broadcasters including Disney, National Geographic, Netflix, Apple, BBC and Roku. She has produced and directed many wildlife sequences across the globe, filming both day and night, and in deserts, jungles, high altitude, and polar environments.

Adam Simon
Producer / Director, Airborne

Adam Simon has over 10 years of experience working in television production, for Disney+, National Geographic, BBC, ITV, Channel Four & Channel 5. He’s filmed in many austere locations across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, North & South America, and has a BSc in Biology & a MA in Wildlife Filmmaking.

The very latest technology has allowed the production team to capture the highest quality footage of these fascinating animals. First person view drones allow audiences to fly alongside animals as they dart about and weave in and out of obstacles, while high speed cameras, cable cameras and gimbals capture the incredibly fluid motion of fast-moving subjects. Cameras mounted on birds during flight allow us to see life through their eyes. The latest in camera technology allows us to see these animals as we’ve never seen them before, in an immersive and immediate way.
